11 Tricks to be photogenic!

Ever been victim to a circumstance when you look stunning in a pose right when you stand in front of the mirror but absolutely drab when you are captured in that very pose by the camera? I am sure all of us have been subject to such unfairness, right?

11 Tricks to be photogenic!

But lo and behold ladies! Here are a few tips to your rescue so that you can rock that stunning look not only before the naked eyes constricted to only that moment but also in your photograph for future self appraisal.

YOUR BROWS BE THE GAME CHANGER

This is a great trick for when you need to leave home in a hurry. Darkening your eyebrows by a shade will enhance your features and help frame your face better. Make sure before you get ready to be snapped, you have your eyebrows done and if they aren’t done you could still make them appear neater by slightly drawing upon them with an eyebrow pencil, wax or powder and you are ready to go.

SLEEK CLOTHES ARE YOUR CAMERA’S BEST FRIEND

There are times when baggy clothes look really trendy, especially on people who aren’t petite. But the bad news is that loose clothes don’t flatter you in photographs. They tend to drown you in, so when you know that there is going to be a photo session at a gathering you are about to attend try dressing in clothes that embrace your silhouette well so that there isn’t any distortion of proportion in the photographs.

PUT YOUR ARMS ON YOUR HIPS BUT BETTER

Keeping your hands on your hips does make you look more attractive because it helps your arms look toned but the problem is it is apparent that you are trying to pose in order to look good. The trick to perfect the pose while also making it look very natural is to angle your arms backward instead of holding it straight out. Not only do your arms look toned then, but you provide for a better angle for your photograph without looking like you are trying too hard to pose.

CREATE AS MANY ANGLES AS YOU CAN

11 Tricks to be photogenic!

Don’t face the camera head on while being clicked. Don’t show your full profile; instead create angles for the camera to look more appealing. Bend your legs or cross your legs and create a good posture for the camera to capture. If you face the camera head on your profile will look drab and boring and sometimes also pretty unnatural as though you are in fact trying to pose too hard. However if you stand revealing one side of your body or create an angle while you’re front facing the lens, then the photograph will tend to look much more appealing and natural.

WHATEVER THE CAMERA FOCUSES ON WILL LOOK BIGGER

You can use this to your advantage for when you want to look slimmer. Try to place your body away from the camera and maybe focus on the face or if you don’t want your face to look too plump then try and hold the camera not too close to the face or you may play with angles just as mentioned in the previous point. Angles will help you achieve the desired proportions in your photographs.

PLAY UP WITH LIP COLOURS

A beautiful smile is very important in a photograph and bright lips make your smile look even more attractive. Hence a bright smile will also brighten up your photograph. Of course you must wear a lip colour that suits your skin tone and complexion but also make sure that it isn’t a nude or a light shade.

KNOW THE GOOD SIDE OF YOUR FACE

Okay so there is a good side and a bad side. Many of us may already be aware of which one’s the good profile and which the bad is but there are others who are yet to figure that out. So you can figure it out by holding a camera out and clicking each side of your face in a selfie and then make out which side looks better. You could click two photographs of each side to be certain. The side that looks better is your good profile. So next time onwards try and pose for the camera on your good side. I personally almost always pose on my right and there are also other friends of mine who are aware of their good side.

SQUINT JUST A LITTLE BIT

11 Tricks to be photogenic!

Instead of staring big eyed at the camera you can look more natural by squinting just a little bit and when you squint you will automatically find yourself smiling because squinting helps in contracting your muscles around the region of your eyes which when accompanied with a smile makes for a much natural look. Also you’ll see that when you squint in front of the camera you will automatically have the urge to smile for it because squinting will make you feel silly so that you very easily break into a smile, a giggle and so forth.

FREAK OUT AND BE SILLY

Don’t get stiff before the camera. You know what works better than makeup? – A full on natural expression. Believe me. I myself have tried this, a lot of times and have had my mother try it too. If you freeze right before the camera even when you’re wearing makeup and your hair is done up you won’t look as good as when you break into a natural laughter, make faces, smile genuinely to yourself or express any emotion that is running through your mind in the camera, because a camera does much more focusing than the naked eye, so it is easy to spot a fake expression or even stiffness which might go unnoticed by the naked eye.

SMILE WITH YOUR EYES

A genuine smile will show itself just as a fake smile will. The trick to distinguish a genuine from a fake smile is to keep a watch for wrinkles at the corner of the eyes of the person who smiles. There will inevitably be wrinkles at the corner of your eyes when you are smiling for real and the happiness will show in your eyes. You can’t smile with your mouth and not with your eyes if you want to look flattering in a photograph. But you can smile with your eyes without moving a lip muscle. The key to doing it is to not be stiff and to twitch your eyes just a little as mentioned in one of the previous points.

CREATE A LITTLE MYSTERY

11 Tricks to be photogenic!

Don’t give it all out at once and too easily. Keep a little bit for the imagination. A little bit of mystery and secrecy is delightful in every piece of art just as it is in a photograph. Tilting of the head, revealing of only part of one’s profile, letting the hair cover a part of the face, all lend a hint of mystery to your photograph. So henceforth remember to not be too vulnerable to the camera. Flirt with it, romance it and let it discover you piece by piece and that is what grants mystery to a picture.

Use these little tips the next time when you’re getting ready to be snapped and do let us know how they worked for you. Ciao!
