10 Must visit places in Mumbai

If you are a tourist visiting Mumbai for the first time, you wouldn’t want to miss the chance of seeing and enjoying these beautiful places. And if you are a resident of Mumbai, I’m sure you might have visited these cool places a number of times. If you really want to know what Mumbai is, you must have at least 2 week’s stay in this city. Mumbai is vast and once you get to know it, you will fall in love with it. There are many attractive and alluring places to visit in Mumbai but we have listed the top ten for you.

  • Gateway of India – India’s most treasured and valued monument, Gateway of India was built by the British in 1924 by the British architect, George Wittet. It was built as a triumphal arch to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Mumbai. Tourists enjoy visiting this place especially at night as it looks compelling against the backdrop of the sea. Another major attraction, Marine Drive runs parallel to the gateway of India.
  • Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus – Formerly called as Victoria terminus, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is a UNESCO world heritage site and one of the biggest historic landmarks in India. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus building is the expression of the British, Italian and Indian architectural planning and it’s use for Indian Railways.
  • Siddhivinayak Temple – Shri Siddhivinayak temple is a hindu temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. This temple is two centuries old and is well known for fulfilling the desires of visitors. The temple was constructed in 1801 and is located at Prabhadevi. It is one of the richest temples in Mumbai.
  • Kanheri Caves – Kanheri Caves, located in Sanjay Gandhi National Park offers a peaceful and airy ambience to visitors. It is a refreshing place that cuts you off from the hustle bustle and the busy life of Mumbai. It is known as the ‘lungs of Mumbai’ as the maximum fresh air is readily available here. The Kanheri Caves are renowned for their natural Basalt formations, ancient Indian styled architecture and the 109 special entrances to the caves. The hilly terrain of the caves also creates several, small waterfalls which are beautiful to see.
  • Haji Ali Dargah – The Haji Ali was built by Haji Ali Shah Bukhari, a wealthy Muslim merchant who renounced all worldly pleasure before setting out on a Journey to Mecca. He became a saint and the Dargah was built in his honor in 1431 A.D. The Dargah is made of whitewashed marble called makrana marble, the same marble with which Taj Mahal is carved in. The tomb is located on an islet off the coast of Worli.
  • Elephanta Caves – These caves are a 7th century creation and are a reflection of ancient art and architecture. Elephanta Island is quiet and picturesque, with light-green foliage and monkeys scampering about. A spectacular dance festival is held at Elephanta Island every February, hosted by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).
  • EsselWorld – EsselWorld is India’s largest amusement theme park. Located in Gorai, EsselWorld was established in 1989. It is the best place to spend your day with family, friends and kids. Entry rates, food, paid attractions are affordable.
  • Jehangir Art Gallery – Jehangir Art Gallery is located in South Mumbai and has evolved as the center of art activity in Mumbai. The Jehangir Art Gallery, was constructed by the donation given by Sir Cowasji Jehangir-2nd Bart to the trustee of Prince of Wales Museum. The Gallery sponsors an annual exhibition known as the Monsoon Art Show to showcase excellent works by professionals and talented artists.
  • JW Marriott – The JW Marriott Hotel Is located in Juhu and was founded by JW Marriott Jr. The hotel offers wedding services, spas, fine dine restaurants, rooms and gym. The Hotel sets new standards for luxury in India.
  • Castella de Aguada – Also known as Bandra Fort, Castella de Aguada is the biggest fort in Mumbai. It is said to be built by Portuguese in 1640 as a watchtower overlooking Mahim Bay, Arabian Island and southern Island of Mahim. The view of Bandra Worli sea link is a major attraction here. The place is peaceful and has lush grenery all over.
