Coming soon: the movie on Malala, the girl who got shot fighting for female education

A documentary on the youngest-ever Nobel Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, will be released in October 2015 and its official trailer is now available on the official movie website.

The film takes us into the life of this unique teenager who has been fighting for education access for women since early 2009 when she used a pseudonym to write a blog entry for the BBC describing her life under Taliban occupation in her native Swat Valley in northwest Pakistan.

In 2010 Malala was shot at three times and one bullet hit her on the left side of the forehead. She spent a few days at the hospital but recovered completely.

At a famous speech she gave at the U.N, Malala said: “They thought that the bullet will silence us. I am still the same Malala!”

Malala was named after Malalai, an Afghan heroin who was killed during a battle against the British after she rose to cheer up the Afghan troops.

The trailer shows the filmmaker asking Malala’s father: “You named her after a girl who spoke out and was killed. It’s almost as if you said ‘she’ll be different.’” And the father replies, “You’re right.”

Malala Yousafzai’s fight is summed up by what she says in one of the interviews during the film: “My father only gave me the name Malala, he didn’t make me Malala.”
