Many of my clients ask me the secret behind my skin at the age of 47. Could it be something related to my beautiful country, France, and it’s way of life?
Let’s have a closer look.
Rose Water
I generally try not to put anything on my skin and let it breathe overnight. While you’re asleep, your skin has finally a chance to heal itself and do its job in peace. All day, it is bombarded with pollution, make up, weather, and other stresses cause by day-to-day life.
That being said, I spray my face AND neck with rose water and let it dry naturally every night after removing my make-up.
Rose water purifies the skin, tightens the pores, calms irritation, and smells amazing.
Using this nightly ends up making your skin look more even and younger.
Herbs of Provence
Now, we have to talk about food: I am French, after all!
This dry mix of thyme, rosemary, sage, and savoury is the signature of the famous Ratatouille from the South of France.
More importantly, all those herbal wonders are packed with vitamins & minerals and help with digestion, have antiseptic and antifungal characteristics, and help with colds and sore throats.
Last but not least, Savoury is said to be an aphrodisiac — but that last point is something I’ll neither confirm nor deny!
Green Clay
This very fine clay is negatively charged, and it therefore “attracts” positively charged toxins and acidic residues that can then be flushed out.
To make it, all you have to do is to put one tablespoon of clay in a glass of water and leave it overnight. In the morning, as the clay rests at the bottom of the glass, you’ll be able to drink the water and leave the clay.
Drink this water every day for a week — it will clean your colon and intestine, and because the clay is very rich in vitamins and minerals, your immune system will be boosted as well.
Let’s not forget, green clay can also be used externally as a mask to unclog and shrink the pores without drying your skin. It can also help with sunburn, eczema, acne, and even a toothache. What more could you want?
Savon de Marseille
Made of 72% of Olive oil, this little beauty is more than just a bit of sunshine in your bathroom, with a fantastic smell to boot.
It’s also a very gentle soap for sensitive skin, one that helps with eczema and problematic skin. Savon de Marseille is antibacterial, gentle, moisturizing, and contains no parabens. It can be used on hair and teeth, as well as on clothes and around the house.
Lavender
You’ve all seen pictures of those gorgeous, purple fields of lavender, but the truth is that this plant does more than just sit around and look pretty.
Lavender oil is also brilliant as an antiseptic, antidepressant, and expectorant. It helps with aches and muscle stiffness, colds and sinus problems, burns and eczema, and a few drops in the bath will work wonders after a long day, relaxing you in no time.
Plus (and this is a big plus for many), it’s an effective bug repellent…particularly when it comes to mosquitoes.
It should be noted, though, that lavender is not to be used directly on the skin or if pregnant, breastfeeding, epileptic, or having fever.
So here you have it, my little secret: you don’t need to live a country lifestyle, but it helps to use simple and wonderful ingredients from Mother Nature!
