We can certainly witness the emerging trend of people transforming themselves into plant eaters leaving away the traditional meat eating trends. Veganism is becoming the popular lifestyle choice now, especially among women. But there is a lot of confusion going parallel with two types of diet i.e. a Vegetarian Diet and a Vegan Diet.

What is the difference?

Vegetarians are people who do not eat meat, fish, or poultry. Vegans, in addition to being vegetarians are those who do not use other animal products and by-products such as eggs, dairy products, honey, leather, fur, silk, wool, cosmetics, and soaps derived from animal products.

Why is Veganism gaining popularity?

Animal Rights

The main reason why people are choosing vegan diet is because they feel that by eating eggs and dairy products, one promotes the meat industry. They believe that the meat industry is unfair to the animals who are put in extreme weather conditions without food and water and their bodies are worn out from producing milk, eggs and other animal raised food items.

Health/ Environment/ Ethics

People are opting to be vegan for several reasons associated with health, environment and some even opt veganism for moral and ethical reasons. Many vegans choose such lifestyle so as to promote a more humane and caring world and feel that it is their responsibility to do the best and bring justice to fellow living beings as well. They say plant foods can provide all the adequate amounts of proteins, minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants and other essential requirements of the body.

How to become a Vegan?

The most successful way to become a long-term vegan is to do so gradually. Most vegans turn themselves into vegetarians first, and gradually made the transition into veganism. The other way is to look for food replacements that taste somewhat similar to animal products and straightway transform into vegans.
