Don´t end up buying a gift for your partner

How many times have you woken up or stayed up late at night breaking into a cold sweat trying to come up with and search for a ‘meaningful and memorable’ perfect gift for your significant other? Trying to score the particular thing your partner wants? Whatever you choose you always have a niggling feeling your partner will not like it. The doubt that your partner is praising the gift just because they do not want to hurt your feelings. All the above things makes choosing a gift for them a stressful event.

At the beginning of most relationships, tokens of affection — from love letters to iPod playlists to spontaneous weekends away — help cement a couple’s sense of connection. But those random acts of infatuation often wane as a relationship matures. Even finding the right gift for birthdays and holidays can start to feel like a chore. But a gift-giving mentality becomes even more important as a relationship evolves — and some of the very best presents can’t be wrapped. They’re the thoughts and gestures that come straight from the heart and can transform a good partnership into a truly great one.

The first rule of picking a gift for your partner is that you listen to your partner. Everyone remembers the scene from ‘Friends‘, when Ross buys Rachel the brooch, which she had mentioned to him in passing and what it meant to her. Although it is from a sitcom, this sort of gesture works in real life too. Make sure your gift adds value to your partner’s life. This sort of gift is a sentimental gift and it makes your partner feel special.

However, all gifts need not have a sentimental value attached to them. Buy your partner something on impulse. While walking through a market everyone has had the thought ‘my partner would love this’. Whenever you get just a feeling, be impulsive and get it for your partner. The gifts need not be expensive it is the thought that matters.  You can gift it to them immediately or save it for next big day in your partner’s life. To be frank, never buy gifts for your partner and keep them for a special day. Just give it to them at the next opportune moment! It will certainly put on your partner’s face.

Not all gifts should be in the form of objects. Gifting your partner some sort of an activity is exhilarating. A perfect Spa day after a long stressful periods, is a welcome break. Cooking a meal of their liking, going on hike, etc. are simple yet evergreen gifts. Whisking your partner for an impromptu gateway and spending quality time with them is an excellent option as well.

All said and done, don’t gift your partner things they can and will buy themselves. All gifts should have a special value attached to them because in the end it is about making them feel special. So the next time you are out and feel like getting something for your partner get it for your partner and see the joy it gives them.
