Who doesn’t want soft, supple and kissable lips? Lips enhance your beauty by defining your expressions. Dry, chapped and even bleeding lips, negatively affect your persona. In the absence of oil and sweat glands, lips fail to get proper nourishment. Hence, we develop sores, cracks and peeling off of the skin in and around our lips. Here are a few tips to help you beat the woes!

  • Avoid biting and licking your lips. Although it may appear to soothing, our saliva is infused with digestive enzymes that are harsh, causing dryness.
  • Kissing someone with an infection and sore lips can transmit virus, fungi and bacteria. Sound intimidating, but stay unless properly healed!
  • Just like the rest of your skin, lips are dependent on your diet too. Infuse healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet since your lips are dependent on a good supply of essential nutrients and vitamins like Vitamin B and D.
  • Ensure that your lip balm contains paraffin or bee wax. In contrast to lip balms with a thinner consistency, they seal in moisture. Stay away from products containing salicylic acid, menthol and even camphor since they have drying properties.
  • Aloe Vera can soften the skin on your lips. It tends to have great effects on irritated and sunburnt skin.
  • Always use a sunscreen with a minimum protection of 15 spf.
  • Exfoliate your lips with a lip scrub or a home- made mixture of honey, sugar and lemon. Lemon tends to lighten skin, honey moisturises and sugar will scrub off the dead cells. The dead skin tends to peels off making your lips appear cracked and rough. You may also brush off the dead skin by dabbing petroleum jelly on your lips and exfoliating with a soft bristled toothbrush.
  • Avoid smoking. Not only does it dry out skin, it darkens too. Nonetheless drink plenty of Hydration is the key to a soft and supple skin.
  • You can also resort to applying olive, coconut or almond oil to moisturise your lips. According to an age- old belief, massaging mustard oil on you naval, has miraculous effects on your lips.
