Women are subjected to various Don’ts every day. Don’t go there, don’t do this, don’t wear that, don’t go out at night, don’t mix with boys, don’t party, don’t exist. Women are just not allowed to do certain things men can easily do, in the name of safety. We are tired of hearing the same don’ts all the time.

United Colors of Benetton came up with the #UnitedByDonts campaign, and held The Don’t Party, to illuminate the innumerable don’ts women are made to obey daily. A support system, platform to vent – where everybody knows exactly how you feel- and a place to bury all the Don’ts once and for all.

Not only was it a platform where every single person supporting the cause could go and raise their voices against gender discrimination, but the event was also accompanied with a luring line-up. It was a star studded affair with actress – Mini Mathur hosting the event to Neeti Palta’s hilarious moments, from Delhi Indie Project’s eclectic mélange to the melodious tunes of The Shillong Chamber Choir. The Don’t Party was certainly the party you don’t miss!

Felicitations

Honours were given to Laxmi Agarwal, who is a part of the Stop Acid Attacks Campaign and Deepa Malik – a paraplegic athlete. Laxmi Agarwal, who is a survivor of acid attack herself, said that after the Stop Acid Attack campaign has begun, she realized she was not alone. Deepa’s daughter received the award on her behalf and said, ‘With a mother like her, we have been taught how to tackle problems in life and move on from them.’

“Women’s safety and gender equality are issues that are close to our hearts. We promote them through the Benetton Women Empowerment Program, a long-term initiative to support women’s rights worldwide. This campaign is our way of reiterating the urgent need for women’s safety and gender equality in the country. We have successfully launched the first phase of the campaign, which seeks to address the root cause of these issues – the widespread misconception in our society that women somehow are the ‘weaker’ sex. We must change the mindset of society and celebrate women,” said Sundeep Chugh, the CEO of Benetton India Pvt Ltd.

Only with steps like this, we can hope for a better future for women.
