Rape is the most horrifying crime in India where it occurs every 22 minutes in some part of the country. It was a wake-up call for the youth of India when a 23 year old girl of Delhi was raped brutally in a moving bus in December 2012. The rape and death of the victim saw many protests and it created a fear as well as awareness in minds of many. The sale of pepper spray as a defence against the rapists soared high but some creative minds were not satisfied with the pepper spray. They decided to invent something that was never thought of before, something that does not need to be carried separately.

JEANS:
The most popular and talked about amongst the inventions is the anti-rape jeans. This has been invented by Diksha Pathak and Anjali Srivastava, 21 and 23 years old college girls that belong to Varanasi. The anti-rape jeans contains an inbuilt alarm that alerts friends and family on telephone and mobiles when activated. In addition to this the jeans also sends signals to local police stations so that the victim can be located easily. 200 local police stations in Varanasi have already been equipped to receive signals from the anti-rape jeans.

SANDALS:
The second anti-rape equipment is a pair of sandals designed by Rijul Pandey and Shalini Yadav, two engineering students from Varanasi. The sandal can send an alert to friends and family when someone is hit by it. It can also deliver an electric shock to the criminals strong enough to give the victims few minutes to escape while the criminals are immobilized.

UNDERGARMENT:
The third one is a creative undergarment – SHE (Society Harnessing equipment). The inventors are Manisha Mohan, Rimpi Tripathi and Niladri Basu. All three of them are students of SRM Engineering University. The lingerie (Bra) can give very powerful shock waves to criminals. It can deliver 110 volts, 82 shock attacks at a time. It has been carefully designed to avoid accidental activation. Along with the powerful defence mechanism through shock, it also has a GPS monitoring systems to alert friends, family and police through text messages.

WRIST WATCH:
Next crime-busting gadget is an anti-molestation device that can be worn as a wrist watch. This device has been invented by a 16 years old school boy, Manu Chopra from Delhi. According to him, he wanted to use science to develop something that can provide safety to women. He took only six days to create the wrist watch that gets activated when there is a significant rise in the pulse rate and nerve speed of the wearer. The watch also has an in-built camera.

JACKET:
The fifth invention that can be used as anti-rape equipment is a jacket designed by students of NIFT (National Institute of Fashion Technology) following the concept of the stun gun used by police. Two students of NIFT, Shahzad Ahmed and Nishant Priya have made this jacket available in two versions: denim and acrylic. The jacket contains an electric sensor that on activation gives 110 volts shock waves to make the criminal immobile for 10 to 15 minutes, giving a woman time to flee.
These new-age anti- rape clothing line and gadgets are indeed the inventions of very creative and powerful minds of India. I hope they gain popularity as the pepper spray and are easily available to all women at affordable cost.
