iStock_000014026443SmallAfter the famous case of rape of an Indian woman on the bus, who later died due to several internal injuries, there has been an uprising among Indian women against the horrible crimes of rape, sexual harassment and domestic torture. Knowing that a woman can be raped in a modern metro like Indian capital New Delhi, while she is travelling with a male companion, has casted fear in the hearts of Indian women. They have to leave home every day for education, job or even to buy grocery and they get exposed to direct interaction with males, some of whom can find them any easy target. This situation demands Indian women to take proper self-defense training, so as to avoid any unpleasant incident. In following we are going to discuss a few forms of martial arts which will help any woman to make some self-defense strategies.

Taekwondo

Taekwondo is one of the most famous forms of martial arts and it is a proven disaster against any offender. A big number of schools which claim to train women for self-defense, actually employ Taekwondo to teach them self-defense as Taekwondo is known as one of the most effective self-defense techniques. Taekwonodo does not rely on the contact and mostly it gives the pain to the opponent through kicks and punches.

Aikido

Aikido is just another form of martial arts; it is a Japanese martial art which is very popular among women. The reason behind its popularity is that one does not need to have immense physical strength or fatigue to learn it. It is ideal for women because it focuses on defense against a stronger opponent through using their own physical power and strength. Aikido relies more on the learner’s own flexibility, mental alertness and attentiveness; thus it is perfect for women who avoid getting into self-defense training due to their weak body structure and less strength as compared to men.

Krav Maga

Krav Maga is basically an Israeli martial art form, which was conceived and designed to train IDF. Yet recently this form of martial art got fame among women because it basically arms a learner with unparalleled techniques of defending against physical power as well as guns and knives. In its essence Krav Maga is not a martial art of its own; it’s a mix of traditional martial arts such as karate, judo and taekwondo. The reason why it is getting fame in women is the fact that it focuses on hitting the attacker at his vulnerable points, thus forcing him to give up.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Last but not least, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has also become famous among those who have love for martial arts. Although it is not yet very famous among women, however it is believed that the approach employed and tactics used in Jiu Jitsu can help women a lot in their crusade against sexual assaults. Usually a victim of sexual assault ends up on ground underneath the male attacker; Jiu Jitsu is focused on ground fighting and it can help a woman underneath the male attacker.
